Hotel Novotel Liverpool Centre

We stayed three nights, service was great as was the location, perfect location to be walking distance from the shops, museums and the port all within 5 or 10 minutes walking distance. Breakfast was good quality with a decent amount of variety every morning, we went when they were at full capacity and we had to queue on occasions but were seated relatively quickly. The pool was great, you had to book a time to go and at times it could be pretty crowded. We were lucky enough to get it to ourselves by going late in the day. Only complaint was the soft bed that my daughter used had an old mattress that had springs that dug into her. After speak to the night staff they helped us with an extra quilt and towels to help with this.

It's a decent hotel but does not feel 4* and is not as good as I'd expect for a 4* hotel. It needs improving and could be a lot better.
Good points: Friendly and helpful staff. Central location and lots of shops and restaurants close by. Also not that far from Lime Street, or Liverpool Central train stations. Good range of breakfast items. Rooms were of good size. There is a nice little swimming pool downstairs.
Needs improving: Rooms are quite tired and shabby looking and the carpets need replacing. They are very worn out and dirty. Bathrooms were ok and nice and clean. The bath in one of my rooms was not working and I was given a different one but it was still hard to use. The bath is also extremely high up and hard to get in and out of. Shower only room was ok though. Loud noise from a generator above my room woke me up in the morning. Not sure if it was a generator or pipes? Either way was very loud. The food at breakfast is of questionable quality sometimes. One morning I found a mouldy bread roll and the scrambled eggs are not cooked fresh! They are instant or powdered. Either way they taste disgusting. Other food was OK though. Pool is nice but it's only open until 7pm, so a bit awkward if you work all day and want to eat after as you don't always have time for a swim.

Generally good. A few technical issues over May Day weekend affecting lifts, door controls and steam room. Exec room ok for 4, although layout could have been better. Bunkbeds for families and a few more coat hooks would help. Breakfast very good as was evenings in the bar, staff friendly and room clean.

The hotel's location is excellent and has easy access to the city attractions. There is convenient (multi-storey) parking close to the hotel (2 min walking) for which you can get a 30% discount from the hotel reception. The breakfast and swimming pool were reasonably satisfactory. The room was not cleaned appropriately before our arrival. There was leftover from the previous guests in the cupboard! The daily cleaning service wasn't on a standard you would expect from a 4-star hotel. No change of bedsheets and bathrobe! We asked for an extra blanket and didn't receive it, although we chased that a couple of times!
