This hotel is everything
Eric Toren is a genius. And this hotel is stunning.
Over many years of regular travel to Amsterdam I have often made a second home in Mr. Toren’s hotels. You can always expect top level service, fabulous design, and a lovely stay at any one of his properties. After a visit last month to the bar at Twenty Seven, I knew I had to stay.
Every detail is noticed in this hotel. From the minute you walk in the door you are in a sanctuary. The staff consistently ensure you have everything you need. Each time you walk in or out of the hotel they are there to greet you. A butler is available 247 to provide anything you may need - or want.
The rooms are decadent and amazingly comfortable. Everything controlled by iPad, they are also modern in their technical capabilities. Bluetooth to connect your device and play your own content on the surround sound. Automatically closing blackout shades to ensure you are in a cave of darkness when it comes time for a full night of good sleep. Even mood lighting in each room of the suite, including the bathroom.
Speaking of the bathroom, the products are unsurprisingly of the highest quality. The steam showers are an amazing amenity. In the tower dream suite, the most luxurious jacuzzi tub overlooks Adam Square.
The decor throughout the hotel is stunning. I even visited the gallery from where the art was purchased to inquire about sending some home for myself. Every finish - from the doors, to the wall paper, to the knobs you turn the sink on or off with, and the shower heads - is of the highest quality available.
Make sure to eat at Bougainville. The tasting menu was delicious at every step. The wine selection is amazing.
This hotel belongs to an exclusive group of the best small luxury hotels in the world. I’ve stayed in a number of the other hotels that belong to this group, including elsewhere in Europe and in Asia and I’ve read in a number of places that Twenty Seven is the nicest hotel in the Netherlands. It surely is. It’s also the nicest hotel in Europe. And probably in the world
