A Wonderful Stay
The staff are incredibly welcoming, friendly and attentive. The decor is absolutely beautiful, the lobby is stunning and the rooms are just as delightful and spacious. The staff was beyond helpful with recommendations, reservations and transportation during our stay. Location wise we were able to walk to all the sites we wanted to see as its centrally located just off the plaza.

Excellent Location, Room and Service
I stayed at this hotel for several nights to see some of the sights in Madrid. First, my travel agent had booked a Junior Suite with Terrace (Red Level). From when the taxi dropped me off until I left for the airport a few days later, I cannot say enough good things about the hotel staff. I was greeted warmly by the Red Level service desk agent who explained all the features of being on the Red Level. I was then escorted to my room. The room is nicely sized with a huge king bed. The shower area is the largest I've ever seen (it's a complete room with floor to ceiling glass). The room was spotless and everything worked. High-speed Wifi was included. One of the nice things about the room is the huge outdoor terrace/balcony. Very nice views of the city. I was able to spend some time outdoors but in November it's a little chilly. The Spring and Summer must be very nice.

When you're on the Red Level there's a special access card only area that available for relaxing as well as food. I thought the food was excellent and very well stocked. In the morning I was able to order an omelet and bacon.

Sara, (the Concierge) was very helpful and provided me with tickets to those events that required them. She also laid out the best routes to go between each of the sights I wanted to see. I love walking and Madrid is a walking city. The hotel is very conveniently located in the Centro district. Very easy to get to the Palace and other areas. The entire staff was wonderful and I wish I could remember all their names.

I highly recommend this hotel and especially the Red Level.

The staff make this hotel a winner
The moment of arrival at a hotel is a crucial part of the customer experience and stays in memory for a long time. You know the Palacio de Los Duques is the right choice as soon as the taxi stops and a couple of members of staff sprint out to welcome you and take care of everything.
Check-in was extremely warm and efficient with everything clearly explained.
Our room was pleasant and the bathroom clean and well-designed.
(General comment: why do hotel rooms have such low levels of lighting these days)
The Gran Melia's public spaces make very good use of the building's historic architecture and combine it with a modern witty aesthetic that still manages to create a relaxing ambience.
The hotel is well-located and in easy walking distance of many attractions and staff were super-helpful with suggestions for walks. (Unfortunately, it was raining in Madrid so we were limited in our exploration.)
We ate dinner in the Dos Cielos restaurant attached to the hotel and it was superb. (reviewed separately.)
Breakfast was excellent, with a wide range of options and very well-organised.
Thank you to all the staff including Rossa who helped with next steps in our travel arrangements - all staff were top-notch with that special combination of friendliness and professionalism that makes a hotel stand out.
We chose the hotel for an overnight stop ahead of a long-haul flight the next day so, sadly, we were only staying one night but will definitely be back for longer if there we have an opportunity

Amazing Hotel!
One of the most beautiful hotels I've ever been. Worth every single penny. We stayed in a premium room, the decoration and size are perfect, spot on cleanliness. Service and staff are incredibly helpful.

Absolutely superb - best experience of our entire trip
We had three separate rooms and all three were beautiful - large, extremely elegant, amazingly quiet, superbly appointed with everything you could want (from complimentary snacks to Clarins products in the bathroom). Large bath tubs to luxuriate in, extensive entertainment program, etc etc. A joy to return to the room at the end of each long day of site-seeing. Everything about this hotel delighted us and we would not consider staying anywhere else if we are fortunate enough to return to Madrid. The moment our taxi pulled up in the street, the attentive porters leapt out to our service and swiftly transported our bags inside. They remained ever-present and welcoming and delightful every single time we entered or exited the hotel over the next 3 days. The welcome from reception (including chilled glass of Cava) was perfect - swift, professional, warm and hospitable. We were instantly thrilled with our choice of hotel - it set the scene for a wonderful stay. They even allowed me to check out a few different room options before I ultimately settled in one (thank you Gran Melia for indulging my fussiness !). The breakfast buffet is awesome - everything from fruit salad to chocolate cake plus a full menu customised to your liking. One of our group was Vegan and the hotel accommodated this perfectly. There is a roof top terrace (with pool for summer) which we enjoyed for sunset drinks and a view of Madrid. The hotel's location is absolutely perfect - right in the middle of where you want to be, and yet so quiet and peaceful once you step inside. Easy stroll to the Royal Palace, the opera house, major shopping streets, etc etc. Plus there is a lovely lounge / bar area for aperitifs and an in-house restaurant if you don't wish to venture out at night. Congratulations Gran Melia - you absolutely exceeded our expectations and we are telling all our friends this is the place to stay in Madrid

Can't say enough good things!
First off, the location of the this hotel is amazing. Most everything was a 1/2 mile or less from the hotel. Next, the customer service is TOP NOTCH. From the bellman, the front desk, the breakfast staff or the concierge. Everyone was on their "A" game. We had a family supreme room. The room was big and clean! The turn down service with water and chocolates were a big favorite. The only slight thing I can say is I wish my son had an actual bed and not a fold out sofa. However, he didn't complain about the comfort. The bellman always had a nice suggestion of where to go and how to get there. He noticed my husband went out for a run and suggested a good route for him the next morning. The hotel airport transfer were perfect and handled through the concierge. The breakfast was plentiful!!! It was too chilly for the rooftop but we went up anyway to see the sunset. It was one of the best. I bet it is packed during the warmer months. The hotel gym was too small for our needs but found one nearby for 10e a visit and that worked great! This, THIS is a 5* hotel.

Amazing hotel with excellent decor and history but what really stands above all other hotels is its amazing people. Truly truly fantastic people, special mention to Elena from the commercial team.
They go beyond their way to make you feel welcome and to enjoy your stay. I loved my stay because of them in the cold of madrid. The hotel is located in the very center of everything, tasteful design, rooms are a delight and the personnel wow the personnel.
I loved my experience and i look forwards to go again in my next visit to Madrid.
Highly highly recommended !!!

We arrived early and arranged car service through hotel. Seamless transition to hotel, and the red level reception with cava was a beautiful welcome. Everyone was so friendly and professional. We were treated very well, and every person working here has a professional mindset, with strong hospitality skills. This is one of our favorite hotel experiences ever. Our room 636 had an incredible terrace, and the room was large and had a huge round tub and beautiful shower area. This hotel knows how to treat guests, and we can't wait to return. Highly recommend red level so you'll be sipping Moet and eating delicious snacks daily. The location is perfect, we walked to all of the important areas. The concierge booked so many wonderful things for us, we were completely pampered. Rooftop had gorgeous views too, and we could see the Royal Palace and San Miguel Plaza from there, in addition to perfect sunsets each day.

Lovely hotel. Awesome breakfast. Staff is attentive and very accommodating. Little details were important- never had to wait for an elevator, concierge was helpful and always available, location is great (try the wine bar across the way). When many hotels are still not cleaning rooms, it was nice ours was cleaned 2x a day. They included special touches for our honeymoon. Lastly, we enjoyed the views and quick service on the rooftop pool. Would stay again!

We had such a great time while staying at the Palacio de los Duques Gran Meliá! It’s a 5 minute walk to the Royal Palace of Madrid which is very fun to explore! Tamara, one of the concierges was so helpful in planning out a night in Madrid. She had suggestions for tapas places, to booking a dinner reservation at Ramses, to getting us tickets to a disco after party! She did a great job making the night memorable! She even helped plan a private tour of Toledo for us for the following day.

Spent 5 remarkable nights and every detail was perfect! Loved the location, just a short walk to Royal Palace and many restaurants, but the star is the staff and service! We opted to reserve a red level suite and it was worth every dime. Our terrace was large and had great views, and access to the beautiful rooftop with 360 degree views was just steps from our door. Hector was our initial butler, he may not have officially been a butler, but he gave us impeccable attention as such. Upon arrival early in the morning, he provided us with a welcome cava and assisted with an easy and early check-in. We were in red level lounge every day, enjoying Moet and a variety of dishes. Breakfast was also outstanding, and the grounds of the hotel are beautiful. I thought the hotel would be larger, it was perfectly intimate and I so appreciated the greeting each time we came into contact with a staff member. This is a chic & elegant hotel, my new favorite hotel in Spain.
