5 Star
We stayed here for 5 days and can honestly say this hotel was incredible! The staff on reception were friendly and helpful, the staff in the bar downstairs remembered us after the first day and always said hello and were lovely to chat to. The room itself was beautiful! Classic and stylish decor, the bed was very comfortable and we heard no noise from outside. The food was lovely & the drinks were also very nice to enjoy outside with a few nibbles. Thank you for such a wonderful stay x

Rated five stars – I give three
Very nice but old hotel in central Brussels. I can see why it once got its five stars, but it really needs for someone to refurbish very, very soon. A big closet – but with no hangers. A tiny separate room for the toilet with hardly any space to sit. The refrigerator door was hanging loose and had to be lifted up to be set in place. But on the other hand the most lovely elevator, kind and friendly staff and a magic atmosphere.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel with lovely friendly staff and great location!
My girlfriend and I had a wonderful 3 night stay at the Metropole. The hotel itself was gorgeous with a beautiful antique lift which was one of the many highlights of the place. the room was well furnished and the bathroom was clean and had a lovely large antique bath. Slight issue with one of the lights flickering but was fixed quickly. Some of the other bad reviews are saying its old and falling down this is definitely not the case. Everything is beautifully maintained and wonderfully historic. Other reviews mention the road works, the hotel was up front with us from the beginning and before my booking mentioning the road works and I didn't hear them once, over the weekend. I heard and saw them walking into the hotel on the Monday morning but as soon as you got inside all noise was extinguished. Finally the staff were very friendly and were always helping us with directions and good places to eat, which are all right outside with the hotel being only 5 mins walk from the Grand Plaze or 3 min walk from the nearest Metro stop.
Overall will definitely be staying here again when I am in Brussels.

Stay Somewhere Else!
I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights for business in February and I don’t think I’ll ever stay here again.

There is heavy construction going on around the hotel which starts at 630am every morning. The frustrating thing is that the hotel conveniently forgets to tell you about this.

In addition, the hotel tried to assign me a room different than what I had booked at checkin and when I came down to complain they kept telling me the hotel was full. They eventually changed me room but it would have been much better if they had done the right thing at the beginning. I travel over a 100 nights a year and this is by far my most frustrating hotel stay. STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Great differences
We where a large group staying at this hotel for the duration of four days. Early on it was clear to us that all though we had booked superior rooms for the whole group it was huge differences in the size and quality of the room.
There where some basic toiletries such as balsam and moisturizer that lacked and the staff did not communicate between shifts. I double checked that I had booked with late checkout only to experience being waked early in the morning by inpatient staff waiting for me to checkout on time.

That being said it is an old and elegant building with mostly polite and helpful staff and an excellent concierge. The hotel is located close to everything and the prestige room is great value. I would definitely recommend to upgrade to prestige or suite!

Apart from the slight hiccups I experienced staying at Hotel Metropole I am quite happy with the stay.

Dissapointed is a understatement!!!!!!
So I decided to book this hotel for my wife’s 30th birthday as a treat! Check in was easy and they took what the room was priced at for three nights,a damage deposit for the room and also I pre-booked a three course meal in there restaurant at a set price so they took that as well! (So all this was a pending transaction) so when I came to check out all I had to pay for was the drinks we had at are meal which came to just over 50€ Which I thought they wouldn’t charge me as they had my damage deposit but not only did I pay for the drinks my deposit was never refunded!!! Also my room 4027 stunk of damp/mould,there was also noise every morning from workers out the back, the breakfast was defiantly not up to a 5* standard and what was meant to be a hot breakfast was cold every day and the stuff that we dealt with couldn’t care less,so don’t be deceived by the pretty pictures you see on line!!!

Run down hotel
To be honest I was very disappointed in this ‘5 star’ hotel. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary so said we would treat ourselves to a nice 5 star hotel for our weekend in Brussels. The pictures look great and when I got a good deal during Black Friday I thought we were in for a treat. Despite the hotel being in a good location and the staff being very helpful and friendly, the hotel itself is in big need of a makeover. The room we got was a good size, but it was facing on to one of the main shopping streets and there was a lot of street noise at night which the windows did not block out. Also, our heat didn’t work but the potable heater that was in the room worked quiet well and the extra blanket provided came in useful. We received 6 free drinks from the mini bar too (2 x water, 2 x beer and 2 x coke’s) which was a nice touch. We did not get a chance to try the restaurant or the breakfast, but the restaurant/cafe on the ground floor looked nice. However, all in all if I was back in Brussels in the future I would not stay in the Metropole (unless it gets a serious revamp) as there are many other options scattered throughout the city.

Very Disappointing
I stayed here with my husband and 3yr old child as it looked like a very Grand, luxurious hotel for our stay. However the experience we recieved was far from the level we expected. On the first night the safe broke after we locked our personal items in and got stuck, this was very stressful. The technician did come to fix it but was very slow and not a good first start. The tv was also broke and a technician never came to fix it despite requesting one for our entire stay!!! The room was spacious but very tired looking as was the rest of the hotel. It just didnt have a grand feel at all, mainly just very old and forgotten. There was no level of service at all, we had a pushchair and the front door is a revolving door and everyday of our stay we struggled and got stuck in there with no help from the doormen that just stared straight at us, in the end my husband would manually open the door himself with the stopper. The doormen were rude and very very unhelpful. The breakfast was average and the same everyday with not much variety and the restaurant staff were so lazy and would not take our dirty plates of our table until we left so we would end up with 2 to 3 dirty plates each piling up on our table. There was just no presence of customer service training or a general manager. The only positive was that it was in a good location and walking distance to everywhere, but to be honest theres plenty of nicer newer hotels with better service to stay at if in Brussels. Lastly on our way back to the station they were supposed to have called us a taxi, which never arrived and after waiting nearly half hr and worrying about the time we chased this and with no proper response we thought it would be best to find one ourselves. At this point a hotel staff member called us over saying we could take a "private taxi" that could take us, we agreed but soon realised it was an illegal taxi as it dropped us a road away from the station.

A great hotel with a terrible street situation
This place is very gorgeous on the inside. Very high ceilings and marble, colored lights and chandeliers, and a quaint elevator. The staff was very friendly in accommodating our needs of a child bed, and the six free beverages were a wonderful surprise in a time when everyone wants to nickel and dime the small stuff (2 waters, 2 cokes, and 2 beers). The room is beautiful - a rich green bedspread accents the light green wallpaper and white trim. The room looked right out over the front entrance. The bathroom had a warm marble floor, powerful water pressure (especially for the 4th floor) shower, and spacious double sink. The only down side was the street construction out front. GPS is useless here as the streets are all blocked or changed. A parking garage ($18 euro a night) is just a short block away, and they offered to pick up the car and bring it out front for $25 euro (which I thought included the $18 fee). The walk to the Grand Place was about 10 minutes, maybe less without a child in tow. Their bar was closing but were very accommodating for a last minute beer (small selection but it is Belgian beer after all.) Overall a great place with a decent price with just a parking problem which should be solved "soon."

Nice but missing too much to go again!
We stayed 3 nights over New Year’s Eve time. The hotel is beautiful and superbly located. We booked it as it was recommended for location, and I never read the reviews. Now I have, and I agree with everyone’s opinions.

The WiFi was terrible on the 5th floor, didn’t try it downstairs. Lift was working most of the time, but dirty and very slow. Receptionists were very kind and friendly, but there was always a queue to get them. Concierge was very nice also, but didn’t have the correct details on New Years fireworks, and sent us on a wild journey unnecessarily.

Our privilege room was an excellent size with a teeny tiny tv, rubbish channels. Amazing double sink bathroom, brilliant shower with plenty of hot water, towels and robes. There was no tea/coffee making facilities, which are now common place I would have thought. Connecting door not soundproof, could hear conversations all through the night!

6 free drinks came with a 3 night stay, 2 cokes, 1 still water, 1 fizzy water, 2 Stella beer. Would have preferred 6 water really but they were ok.

The main disappointment for us was the bed. Room 535, it was incredibly lumpy. At one stage my boyfriend thought he was lying on his phone, until he reached for it to find lump mattress! Pillows were very small and went flat with heads on.

The main plus was the location, right beside the metro, the shopping and the museums. We also loved the heated outdoor cafe area. If you’ve plenty of cash, don’t care about WiFi and tea/coffee, stay at metropole!

Overall, we would not stay again, as the bed and WiFi was enough to sour our stay.
