Hotel Wellington Madrid

My first home in Madrid. I moved to Madrid on a press trip with the Metropolitan Museum of Art (previewing the exhibition “Manet/Velázquez: the French Taste for Spanish Painting”) and the Wellington was our base of operations for about 10 days in late October. All the journalists had one suitcase and I had seven, which the hotel kindly stored for me until my apartment was available November 1. I was going to take a one-year sabbatical to learn Spanish, paint and write. That was 2002 and I’m still here (though with a less grand salon that the one shown). My family stayed at the Wellington in June 2015 when our movers turned up 3 days early and packed up all our beds, furniture, and belongings. P.S. Best hotel pool in Madrid - it’s like an urban resort
