#16
The room was spotless, big, quiet, bathroom was easily the best I've ever had, the building is beautiful and tastefully decorated. Location is good too, with plenty of good restaurants around, and very walkable (It's not near the touristic sights. I was in for work, so it worked great for me.)
However, front desk service was lacking to say the least. On arrival, the room was unbearably warm (>25ºC and bed has duvet for winter). This is because floor heating is running 24/7 and cannot be entirely turned off. I asked in the morning, and was told "we will see what we can do". Nothing was done. Of course, what I did was open the windows. The front desk employee did not think of telling me that if the windows are open, the aircon is overridden so it does not work (bear in mind it's cold outside, so it may make sense to have windows open and aircon in cooling mode too). Nowhere in the room this nice "feature" is informed - I had to figure it out myself after 2 nights (and some wine over dinner).
I also requested, in two different occasions, for a memory foam pillow to be delivered to my room (from the "pillow menu" that the hotel offers). It never arrived.
I found the bed and pillows to be just bad, and this is what motivates most of my rating. Bed is very firm and does not let the body "sink in" at all. Even though it's a double bed, I had to sleep on the edges, otherwise it was unbearable. Couldn't really take advantage of the big bed despite being single occupancy. The pillows (comically) behaved like air balloons that slowly deflated when resting my head on them, instead of just being normal fluffy down pillows. I've never, ever had this happen before. Also - they were excessively tall and lumpy.
This location was my 5th hotel stay in just 7 weeks, among the most "luxurious" ones on paper, and also the least comfortable one of all. I hoped for much better given the ratings. However, I have to say, my stay was very reasonably priced (cheaper than some 3* and 4* I've been to in other European capitals), so YMMV.
