An amazing view from the hotel of the Danube.
Yes, this hotel is quite a way out from the centre of Vienna, but if you have done your research before booking you should be aware of this, so not sure why people mark it down because of its location. We stayed here as we wanted a hotel near to the Danube and this hotel is, it looks out onto the river which is lovely to sit and watch from the bar, the restaurant and the outside sitting area. To get to the main area of Vienna it was a quick and easy walk to Stadion metro station which was about 5-6 minutes away. The trains run about every 3-6 minutes through out the day it then took about 10 minutes to get into Vienna. We bought a 72 hour pass and this allowed us to use public transport for the whole of our stay. A taxi could also be used which was about 15 euro. If you don't want to have this extra travel don't book this hotel. When we visit Vienna again I will probaly book a more central hotel but for this trip I wanted to be next to the river so this was perfect.
Check-in was quick and easy. Breakfast was inlcuded and this was offered in the main restaurant. It offered a good selection of breakfast foods. If you wanted to use the hotel Wi-Fi you need to be a member of Hilton Honours which is easy to register for on the Hilton website. Not sure how often housekeeping visited each floor but a room service tray was on the floor in the corridor for the best part of 24 hours, this happened a few times during our 3 day stay.
We were staying in an Executive room of the 6th floor and the room was massive, twice the size of a normal hotel room. This allowed us access to the Executive lounge on the 8th floor from which you got an amazing view over Vienna. It was only open from 18.00 to 21.00 during our visit. There was a great selectionof snacks and alcohol availible. It appeared that many people/families may have used this instead of booking and paying for an evening meal.
The only thing that let it down was the bath/shower. The bathroom looked as though it had been updated recently with a lovely handbasin but the bath was incredibly small with a shower over the bath. You then had a shower curtain (I can't remember the last time I was in a room with a shower curtain) that had to be put into the bath to stop you from flooding the bathroom floor. It was incredibly cramped and not very comfortable. It would have been better for them to have removed the bath and put in a walk in shower which seems to be standard in most hotel rooms now.
Also the hotel still used sinlge use plastic bottles for toiletries again this seems to be a change that Hilton maybe should be looking at, again many hotels now have refillable dispensers, which are mcuh more environmentally friendly, especially if adopted by a large chain hotel.
