I wish I could put 5 stars because the staff and concierge service was super helpful and truly gave us great reco + handled all our bookings for everything we didn’t have time to plan for ahead of time, and they live up to the other 5 star hotels I’ve been fortunate to stay at. The gardens are beautiful and the pier at the back of the hotel offers a great view. However during our stay the hotel was being refurbished, spa was fully closed, restaurant too, and the breakfast was quite basic. All these downsides didn’t change the rates of the nights and none of it was explicitly mentioned at time of booking. I get it, there’s no perfect time to refresh the inside of a hotel, there’s no way to do that without hammers and drills for most of the daytime, but it shouldn’t be at the full price of the hotel rates for the guest who book at that time. Again, nothing against the hotel staff, all of them were indeed 5*, but more a message for NH management.
