After seeing the positive reviews on Lonely Planet and here, we were excited to try the restaurant for dinner. After spending more than 65€ in cab fare just to get there/back - we were disappointed we made the journey. The restaurant is OK. The view is impressive when you first walk in, but it quickly fills up and gets noisy. Especially as there are many hotel guests there eating from a separate buffet - constantly getting up and down. We went for the surprise tasting menu for 72€ per person and left hungry. The food was fine, but many of the dishes were served luke warm. Didn’t feel like there was much passion or warmth in the place - just serve and go.

Great location about 3.5 kms from the centre of Rovaniemi and Ounasvaara ski slopes are literally right next to the hotel. There’s a beautiful walking trail that loops the area, which makes for a great walk around the surrounding area or into town. The hotel and rooms are warm and cosy and there’s a lovely open fire place in the lobby that’s a perfect place to warm up and relax after coming in from the freezing temperatures outside. We had a room with sauna, which beforehand sounded great but we only actually used the sauna twice as the rooms were so warm. Unfortunately, there was very little choice for breakfast and meals. We stayed there for 6 nights and the choice for breakfast, though good, was the same every day. The two nights we had the buffet, again the food choices were the same. Nevertheless, a great place to spend your time in Lapland.

While rooms facing the North (only on the upper floor) allow you to look for the northern lights the one on the south side can only disappoint. We were able to switch rooms once we realized we ended up on the "wrong" side. Breakfast was 5 star. The lobby is so lala, it often holds large groups wrapped in there tour safari gear which kills the cosy atmosphere. Real problem is to get to and from this place without your own car or an expensive taxi. One bus a day leaving in the morning. The skiing area is pretty small, three lifts connected. (Not counting the two kids ski school ones) 41€ one day ski pass.
