At this hotel, you are truly a guest. Every staff member greeted us with a smile and a friendly "hi-hi!" and even if they were having a conversation between themselves, they would immediately switch to English and include us in the chat. The restaurant staff are outstanding, especially Katrina, who made us feel like we were guests in her home. The guys in the cocktail bar were also on top form.
The hotel itself is beautiful; the steamer lounge on 2nd floor is definitely worth a look. Rooms are slightly small, but overall a brilliant place to stay. Go to the jazz club if you can.

Very friendly staff at the hotel, and especially the restaurant.  The rooms are modern and clean, but a little small by American standards.  Central location had plenty of restaurants within walking distance.  They have their own beer label which was also tasty (pilsner/pale ale and amber). Overall I highly recommend this hotel.

We loved our 3-night stay at Amerikalinjen so much that we changed our travel plans to return to Oslo for one night at the end of our trip to ensure a second stay at this stunning boutique hotel. We just checked in for our second stay, and were upgraded to a slightly larger room. (The first time we checked in, we had a lovely room and were greeted with a bowl of treats upon arrival, which was delightful.)
The hotel is beautifully unique in so many ways with all its various spaces, including the Haven, the Library, Pier 42, gym, sauna, relaxation area, etc. It has all the amenities of a luxury hotel (robes, slippers, great soaps, etc.) but has the added special touches of the hotel’s history and careful attention to branding and detail to ensure its guests understand why the hotel is such a gem. It is also so, so pleasantly close Oslo Central Station, which not only makes it easy to arrive/depart Oslo, but also ensures close proximity to all the main Oslo attractions.
We’ve loved getting to know the staff, especially Hendrik, Lotte, and all the waitstaff in the Atlas and Pier 42 who’ve gone out of their ways to ensure a terrific experience, including breakfast tips and providing their recommendations of what to visit in Oslo. At the end of our first stay, we had to depart early and miss breakfast, which was one of our favorite parts of the day (I hope the breakfast trays continue - it seems to prevent waste and is so unique). The staff, of course, made sure we had a breakfast package to go for our travels. It is not an exaggeration to stay that this was one of the best overall hotel experiences we’ve ever had, and we wouldn’t dream of staying anywhere else in Oslo.

I rarely give 5 stars to hotels, but this one deserves it. I would have preferred higher floor, but the view wasnt bad from our 2nd floor “Superior” room. The room isnt spacious, but the high ceiling and big windows make up for it. The staff were courteous, professional, efficient. our room was always cleaned thoroughly and fresh glasses were replaced every day, not just cleaned on the sink by housekeeping staff like in other hotels. The espresso maker in the room was very useful. The breakfast was higher end — we enjoyed lots of berries as they were abundant in the nordic region. The juice was not freshly made, but other items made up for it.
The location is very convenient, and the hotel has a beautiful gym and sauna.
The most impressive part of the hotel to me was the progressive vibe. A copy of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights welcomed us at the bedside table, a more inclusive gesture than the traditional Bible. The fact that the hotel provides room slippers is already a plus for me, coming from Japan. But even more impressive is the conscious rejection of conventional gender codes that often limit pink to women. My husband got to wear the L size pink slippers, while i got the S size navy colored ones. I love the portraits of Obama and the We the People! Will definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and relatives.
