For a business trip we stayed in the Intercontinental for 5 days and had a big room and a nice view. Also breakfast was really delicious.
But there is one thing I can’t get out of my head and that is the reason for my rating:
Two weeks later I still feel bad about how unsustainable our stay was at the hotel. My colleagues felt the same.
Every day all towels are changed, even if you hang them clean. The cosmetics are replaced as soon as they were opened, even if they were far from empty. The only way to avoid this is to refuse room service.
At breakfast, plates are pulled out from under your nose before you have fully eaten. If you want a refill, you have to use new plates and new glasses.
On that point, one has the feeling the hotel is still a few decades behind.
Especially such large hotels that accommodate so many people have such a big impact on the environment. It is very sad that even in times of frightening insights regarding climate change, there are still no contemporary concepts and I could not help but calculate in my head every day how much waste is produced in this hotel at this very moment.
I think there are already great concepts to learn from and I wish that the Intercontinental will find the courage to step into the 21st century and finally make a difference. Until then, to be honest, I would not recommend a stay even considering the comfort.
