The ideal place to stay when visiting Helsinki with kids!
We spent 9 nights in a wooden cottage at the Rastila Camping near Helsinki and had a great time! Rastila isn't located in Helsinki itself, but in one of the city's suburbs, on the edge of nature. That makes the camping a really quiet and cosy place. In the same time, thanks to the metro station really close to the exit of the camping, you're in the heart of Helsinki within 18 minutes. A really acceptable time, even when traveling with young kid(s), like we were. There's a great atmosphere at the camping, it has a really lovely scenery and landscaping and the staff is really kind and helpful! The Monami Café at the camping is a big bonus. We really recommend having breakfast there! The camping is in general ideal when traveling with kids, for instance thanks to the many playgrounds, the small beach and the beautiful nature. Our cottage was really new, clean, quite big and equiped with everything we needed. All in all we had 10 amazing days in and around Helsinki and the Rastila Camping was without any doubt the ideal place for us to stay, especially since we were traveling with our little girl. We can definitely recommend the camping for every family wanting to visit Helsinki, and we'll certainly stay there again the next time we want to visit Finland!

Good location, useful site
This campsite is very good. It is located some distance out of the city centre but there is an excellent train service very close

The site provides fixed emplacements for campers but they are quite generous, some with, some without electricity. They are quite densely placed but the space is pleasant. Plenty of facilities, in a number of blocks.

There is a grassy area with trees running down to the beach to which the campsite has its own access. There is a restaurant on site, but we did not try it. Reception staff are friendly and helpful. Check-out time is a generous 15:00

Convenient cottages, close to the city
We had a wonderful stay at the Rastila camping site.
The cottage was very convenient for family with 3 kids. We were 4 families and rented 4 of them, so the kids could run freely in between, enjoy the rabbits and pick wild berries.
Staying here isn't cheap, you can get fine hotel rooms for less, but if you want to enjoy what Helsinki has to offer while staying close in a place the kids can play outside – it's a good choice.

Rastila Camping Helsinki For Family
We liked walking around Rastila Camping Helsinki. There's the beach, endless kids play. There's the camping area, the forest and the kids play area is an added bonus! The kids even had a great time inside the cottage we booked.

The kitchen is not large but ergonomically functional.

The staff pretty much thought of everything, we were very comfortable during our stay. The area is less than three-minute walk to the nearest train station and grocery store. Very convenient for family with little kids like us.

The free wifi is only available in public places.

Great location, fun cabins
great location near metro stop, good cabin with ac, nice sauna. Kitchen had full set of dishes and silverware, pots and pans. With the windows shut couldn't hear the campground parties. Staff spoke excellent English.

My major complaint was that the sauna was not preheated & the gate to beach was locked despite asking twice in advance for both. The end result was that the sauna was colder than usual and it took an extra hour. The sauna facility itself was really nice and jumping in the sea was great. Wifi was spotty but still had some access in the cabin.

I look forward to booking here again for our next trip!

Almost perfect for families
I stayed in a log cottage with family including two adults and a one and three year old in August. It was ideal in many aspects. The playground, beach, grassed areas and close proximity to train and supermarket were great. The cottage had an excellent kitchen and shower room with table and chairs on the porch for outdoor dining as well as dining area indoors. The staff members were friendly and very helpful. Wifi was good but only worked at reception and very close by. The fixed ladder to the mezzanine bedroom (second bedroom) was a safety hazard so we had to be very vigilant with the children.

Campsite close to Helsinki
This is the only campground near Helsinki. So, they charge more than we have paid in other better places. Wifi only works at reception & adjacent TV room. I did not use it as a result, because I wanted to sit in my warm campervan and use the Internet.
Bathrooms are ok. We are getting used to pushing the shower button every 10 seconds to keep the water flowing. How much of your body they expect you to wash in that 10 seconds??? The shower was lovely - hot & strong.
Poor kitchens- just a sink with hot water, & sometimes a stove top.
Can catch the metro to/ from Helsinki. Buy the 24hr, 48hr,or72hr ticket at the park reception, or you will have to use the ticket machine as there are no staff at the Rastila metro station. There is only 1 metro line, so easy to use. Trains come about every 5-10 minutes. There is a supermarket at the metro station, which is only 2 minutes walk from the camp ground, therefore very convenient.

Lovely day out !!
Caught metro from helsinki main station to Rastila. Short walk from the station and you arrive at the campsite. We rented a sauna cabin for two hours. Excellent price !! And private....both of which you don't get in the city. Very relaxing place and very clean.
We had a lovely buffet lunch at the onsite resturant, again it was reasonably priced.
Highly recommend you find their website and come here. I would stay here, and hope to do so in the near future.

Absolutely Perfect!
My partner and I stayed here for 4 nights in June 2010. We had never been to Finland before and were apprehensive with all the talk of moody silent Finns. However, we were very pleasantly surprised! Rastila is a very clean, peaceful and modern camping site with good shower facilities. The reception staff spoke good English and were very helpful. We hired bikes from reception and cycled round the nearby forests. We spent most days getting the highly reliable and efficient trains into Helsinki centre. The train stop is right beside the camp site and train services run on average every 5 mins into the centre. The bus also ran out to the campsite and we used the bus to get home after a few drinks! The last bus was at about 12.30am each night. We were glad we had picked the camp site rather than a city centre hotel as it meant we could combine city sight-seeing with the peacefulness of a great sleep in a cosy cabin at the end of the day. We stayed in a modern camping cabin which consists of one room with a double bed and a sofa bed, a fridge and a couple of tables. There is no wardrobe so we just folded our clothes on top of a table. Everything was new, clean and comfortable. We were able to buy food from a small supermarket at the front of the campsite and eat breakfast each morning on the private verandah at the front of the cabin. We would not recommend the campsite restaurant as the woman looked very scary and the menu did not look appealing! Overall, we would thoroughly recommend a trip to Rastila!

Camping here is a bit spooky
Although the campsite is close to big roads and the suburban train and is therefore convenient for Helsinki, it is also quite urban and there are some characters hanging around who were a bit seedy. There was security at the site - but in a tent you don't want to be in a place where you even NEED a security guard. The bathrooms were decent, if a little battered, the laundry facilities were just DAFT - you had to make a reservation for the machines - which took forever and were impenetrably difficult to operate - and expensive too. Perhaps in the cabins these things would be less of a concern. The desk people were friendly and helpful and it was certainly a bargain in Helsinki. But we've been to camp sites that were better - even near cities. There is some internet access but it is slow and expensive.

It is the only one camping around Helsinki and it is open all around the year. Good and new services, bathrooms, and other common areas. The metro is just 200 meters away, so it is easy to go to the city center. Just the location is not so good because it is between apartment buildings but it has green areas and a beach. The prices is quite cheap.

I only use it the night before my ferry leaves. Caravan Places are crowded, camping site is ok. But almost every time i was there, sooner or later some big families arive putting half goats on improvised barbecue and having loud parties. on midsummer they are joined by locals from the more lower end of society and it all escalates in a sometimes pretty aggressiv boozing.
If you are outside the season on this place, the gate is open all the time and the ground is abused as a racetrack for gypsie riders. i alarmed the reception the next day, but they just looked at my like i was demanding to shoot at the intruders.
Since 10 years or so the whole place is surrounded by a high fence and everywhere are signs to take care of your stuff. yes, the itäkeskus is near.
This place is far away from the "typical finish nature". For people who like to discover the city its ok as a base. but dont expect to go to rastila and have later gigabytes instagram footage of romantic sunsets in absolute silence.
The showers and toilets are ok and modernized from time to time. the kitchens also.
The nearby beach is also open to public and you can enjoy the cultural diversity of helsinki.
The prices rise constantly, but for example firewood costs extra. Because it was stolen all the time by, yes you can imagine who.

Very nice city camping in Helsinki. Spacious campground,  nice grassy area for tents, big area with places for trailers or campers. They have access to a nice little beach and the underground is only a few steps away. Good place to stay with the family when visiting Helsinki.

First place we are staying on Helsinki. Not to far from the metro station and near town center. The chalet we are staying sleeps two at the loft, 2 in the bedroom and one in the living/dining room. The bathroom has a wash hose for the toilet which is very convenient for Muslim guests.
