Absolutely Fantastic Hotel
Who goes to Helsinki in February when it's minus 7, well I did and though the cold, snow and ice are not friends of mine, but to stay overnight in one of the best hotels I have ever had the pleasure of visiting, was the tonic I needed. Checked in at around 5pm by a very helpful, cheerful and professional young lady (sorry, I didn't check your name tag), I asked to book a taxi for the morning to go to the airport, it was done in an instant, My room, a deluxe was on the 6th floor, room 625, quite a walk from the elevators but walking on beautiful soft carpet and passed décor that is clearly looked after I arrived at the room. When I entered, it was a scene of warmth and calm, beautiful light Finnish wooden cabinets, a desk with chair, a relaxing armchair with footstool, the bathroom was a delight, spotlessly clean with a bath AND walk in shower, a large mirror, subtle tiling, soap, toiletries and even a rubber duck for the bath, nice touch that.
Wasn't too impressed with the tv to be honest, mostly in Finnish, but who goes to stay in a world class 5 star hotel to watch tv ? The bed was ultra comfortable with soft white linens with the "K" embossed upon them, two soft bathrobes with white slippers, a hairdryer discreetly tucked away in the bathroom, an ipod dock clock radio, loved the plug adaptor for like minded tourists like me, who forgot to bring his European plug adaptor. Checked out very early this morning, Anatoly was so friendly even at 5:30am, my taxi arrived due on time at 5:45, the smart suited driver walked into the lobby (opposite THE most beautful flower display of Tulips I'd ever seen, absolutely gorgeous!), called my name escorted me to the Mercedes and off to the airport, believe the taxi was the hotel's limousine, cost was Euro 45, a little steep, but I didn't care, it was luxury on a very cold dark Helsinki morning.
I will definately return to Helsinki (but in the summer!), and the first thing to do will be to book the KAMP Hotel, it was the highlight of my trip, stunning building, friendly, attentive but not obtrusive staff, fabulous location (i bet the garden opposite looks amazing in the summer, as it did with plenty of snow on the trees this morning!), rooms cozy, comfortable and charming. I urge all Tripadvisors, if you're going to Helsinki, THIS HOTEL IS THE ONLY ONE YOU'll NEED, it's divine.
