Highly recommended
Stayed at Autograph properties before but this one truly stands out. 1913 building to include old/new Berlin touches is special. Like to commend entire staff as well. We were upgraded to a sauna suite and treated to yummy chocolates. Look forward to future Berlin visits and staying here again

My sister and I recently stayed here for 2 nights. Wonderful hotel! The staff was exceptional especially Ana in the bar who gave us some wonderful site seeing ideas. The room was perfect! It had a separate toilet and shower. The beds were sooo comfortable. It’s close to Tier Garten and public transportation. It was only a 15 min taxi ride from airport. I would absolutely stay here again.

There are more expensive hotels in Berlin, but this one offers five-star luxury at four-star prices. From the friendly welcome on arrival to the efficient check-out, you feel you are in the hands of true professionals, totally committed to your wellbeing. Our junior suite was beautifully appointed and quite spacious, with a really comfortable king-sized bed, coffeemaker, robes, slippers, large-screen TV (with CNN but no BBC World), a fair-sized bathroom with high-end toiletries, a bathtub and separate walk-in shower. The bar is justly renowned for its excellent cocktails, but was closed all day until 5.0 pm. Likewise the restaurant was open only for lunch during weekdays and only dinner at weekends. (These restrictions may be Covid-related and may change in future.) Breakfast is excellent – a good variety of hot and cold options, with chefs providing freshly cooked dishes from the open kitchen. The spa on the top floor has two saunas (hot and very hot!) and offers excellent massage and other treatments at reasonable prices. This hotel ticks all the boxes, and is certainly the best accommodation in this part of the city

Review in a few words: This is a truly wonderful hotel that can absolutely compete with five star luxury alternatives.

Review in full: We stayed at this hotel for the Berlin marathon and we were blown away by the quality of our room and level of service provided by the staff. This being our first times to Europe, we didn't quite have our sea legs and the staff at check-in were patient and helpful with all of our questions about the area. They really went above and beyond to ensure that we were set and settled.

We received a small room upgrade (Deluxe to Superior) as a part of our Marriott status and were completely impressed. The room was spacious and beautiful. The beauty of the room is punctuated by ENORMOUS windows that really impress. While not a Suite, we didn't really want for much if anything in this room and we were blown away by the level of quality.

We had made our booking with points, so breakfast was not included, but we tried it out all the same. The hotel does a great job at providing a wide array of buffet options and I would absolutely recommend giving it a try if you convenience is a factor in your morning plans.

I must take the opportunity to praise the staff again as they were constantly helpful throughout the duration of our stay. They even went out of their way to write a nice congratulations card following the marathon and gave me a few necessary token gifts (sports drinks and food). It was a really small but really nice gesture.

We cannot wait to get back to Berlin and there is no question that we will be staying at the Hotel am Steinplatz again. What a fantastic stay!

This Hotel and it’s employees go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Each of the staff members I was in contact with, were absolutely  professional and genuinely attentive to make your stay a memorable and exceptional experience. The rooms deserve special recognition for cleanliness, thoughtfully selected furniture and well rounded accent pieces. It is very obvious that attention to detail is emphasized extensively. I am not easily impressed and pleased, but this Hotel, along with its employees, exceeded my expectations by far.

My stay at the "Hotel am Steinplatz" was solid. My expectations were mostly met with only a few things that could be improved, like the attentiveness of the staff, especially at breakfast or the cleanliness of the room which was on a high level but could have been even better.
Furthermore, I had a standard room and have to say that the rooms can be quite small for a hotel in this price class. I would consider coming back to try the sauna suite, which seems to be a nice concept.
Generally I believe the hotel is worth a try but still has some room for improvement.
Lastly, and this is something I can say about 90% of all hotels I stayed at - please make better coffee. In-room as well as for breakfast. Berlin has some amazing coffee roaster, use them to your advantage.

Clean and nice room with big a bathroom.
The service and people was great. I was celebrating my engagement and asked if they could have a bottle of sparkling wine ready at arrival. They did, and also included some sweets and macrons. The congratulation note from the staff was also very thoughtful!
The breakfast gets an 7/10. There should be more gluten-free and vegetarian options. The location was also very nice. Walking distance to many restaurants.

We spent a night at this five-star hotel and had dinner in their restaurant. We remove one star for each unexpected event encountered. First, we had booked a luxury room with two separate beds, but were initially given a standard room with a king-size bed. Second, dinner was not up to standards, neither quality-wise, nor service-wise. However, the open wins was excellent. Finally, at breakfast, the granola hid dozens of weevils and numerous  larvae crawling around in the bowl: an unexpected protein supplement! Did the waiter apologise? No. In conclusion, we give our initial experience at this hotel 2/5 stars.
On the positive side, the rooms were spotless and the beds were great. The receptionists were sweet. Two capsules of espresso coffee with two bags of sugar, as well as a magnifying mirror revealing all of your facial pores in great detail were supplied. Finally, we appreciated the "Wunderbaum" in our car along with a water bottle, mints, and a hand-written greeting card received on departure. This adds a star to our overall grading.

Description

Location
Hotel am Steinplatz occupies a leafy square that, although just a 10-minute walk from the bustling area around Tiergarten Park, feels more affluent and residential than 'bustling big city'. A 10-minute walk will bring you to a number of excellent venues, from contemporary photography gallery C/O Berlin (one of the best in Berlin) and the Deutsche Oper, to famous retail boulevard Kurfürstendamm. U- and S-Bahn Zoologischer Garten are also within 10 minutes' walk Style & character The Moorish arches and maze-like public areas of the original Art Nouveau-inspired interior have remained intelligently intact. The gorgeous renovations have juxtaposed aristocratic touches like a marble-encased fire hearth grand piano with modern elements such as the black and white historic videos screened in the corridors, contemporary artworks and 21st-century technology throughout

Service & facilities
Compact and bijou it might be, but the hotel has pretty much everything you could want, from a bright and airy rooftop fitness area (running and cycling machines, free weights) and spa (body treatments and massages using high-quality Thalgo products) to an excellent bar and restaurant, a lobby with fireplace, a couple of (well-hidden) meeting rooms and a leafy inner courtyard. The multilingual staff, available 24 hours, make sure you feel special from start to end. Specific services include dry cleaning, concert booking and airport transfer, all through the dedicated guest relations team

 Rooms
The 84 rooms and three suites (including one Spa Suite with its own sauna and freestanding bathtub) are masterpieces of discreet opulence. Filtering Weimar-era flair through a modern emphasis on technology and natural materials, interior designer Tassilo Bost has plumped for elegant shades of grey, brown and black throughout, punctuated with designer furnishings and chrome-edged mirrors. The pristine black-and-white bathrooms feature walk-in showers and Etro toiletries, and there are also Bose and JBL bluetooth speakers, 42-inch televisions and sleek Illycaffè coffee machines

Food & drink
Breakfast, taken in the hotel’s small but refined restaurant, is a buffet of cold cuts, cereals, fruits and croissants, plus hot dishes (Bavarian sausages, scrambled egg) and an active open kitchen offering freshly made omelettes and pancakes. Dinner in the evening it’s a glamorous affair, with fine dining menus (saddle of venison, red mullet with curry lentil cream) most of the week and more casual fare on Sundays and Mondays. The neighbouring Bar am Steinplatz does a great line in innovative and seasonal cocktails as well as craft beers and great international wines

 Value for money
Double rooms from €190 (£166) in low season; and from €250 (£219) in high. Breakfast €25 (£22) for continental; €35 (£31) for a full American. Free Wi-Fi.
