Would not recommend - really disappointing
I have been staying at the Wyndham Grand this week and have been exceptionally disappointed and wish I’d paid more attention to the poor reviews - I thought people were being picky and over sensitive....I was wrong. I’d write a letter or speak to a manager but general attitude here is no one can be bothered, no one cares...
We arrived during a the end of a conference and went to check in - no queues at reception. However, reception were not what I would call welcoming and seemed more interesting in helping conference partakers who were pushing in front of me and my colleague asking questions or for taxis. Rather than asking my colleague and I to take a seat so they could deal with the onslaught, they allowed us to be barged in front of at the reception desk and really slow down our check in. After a reasonably long flight I would not say this was ok.
The rooms are ok - I asked to move rooms as me and my colleague were in inter-connecting rooms and could easily hear each other’s work calls through the door and I wanted a little privacy To be fair, they moved me but all the little perks in my original room (‘bowl of fresh fruit’.etc) no one had the foresight to move. I am giving this room two stars solely off the room. However, they are OK, not ‘5*’. Plenty of the fixtures and fittings are scratched, you get one courtesy bottle of water and that is it. Most hotels of this ‘class’ that is free now. In addition, coffee capsules which are normally free you get two free then have to pay 1.5 euro for each following capsule!? Absolutely mad.
The rooms are not sound proofed and you can easily hear the traffic, even with ear plugs. I am on the 8th floor and not on the roundabout next to the hotel which is busy. View if acropolis, though, is nice of course.
The air con is incredibly noisy, it woke me up every night so turned it off. Luckily it’s jot the summer...
However, the restaurant/bar here is absolutely atrocious when it comes to service. Really appalling and a reflection of the hotel overall. The staff simply cannot be bothered. First night, colleague and I went for dinner as it was late, and first impressions seemed good. Head waiter sat us and gave menus....he recommended a local wine. Good. Fine. However, there it ended....we waited ages to order anything despite being in an empty restaurant and four front of house staff working. When we did finally order, the attitude of the staff was just rude; this isn’t a cultural thing or anything lost in translation, just rude. Short. Sarcastic. I couldn’t fathom why? Food was ok, but no one came to clear our table. We waited for twenty minutes and wanted a dessert but no one came to clear table or ask if we wanted dessert...so we moved plates to another table as a sign but still nothing. We went to the bar and had a drink but that was it. Another night I had to go to the bar to order a drink despite being empty and it meant to be table service....and tonight, I sat in an empty restaurant for fifteen minutes before anyone came to take my order (despite four front of house staff). I was so frustrated I just left the restaurant and went across the road where the food was a third of the price, really tasty and service was warm and friendly. Go there if you stay here!!!!!
I work in the service industry and just found this hotel so off the mark and really disappointing - I don’t normally bother with negative reviews but I feel so strongly about this as they don’t seem to care. Common sense would be don’t leave people waiting for so long and make them feel like an irrelevance. If this hotel wants to be a real 5* or even 4* they need to sort the service issue.
Ps. A colleague stayed at the Wyndham residence across the road and said it was excellent, the opposite of this
