Well.......
During my latest European trip I stayed in three hotels, and Hotel Rio in Athens proved to be the lowest point as compared to the others (actually, to all the hotels I've been).
I went to a series of concerts at the same venue, and I spent most of my time for sightseeing, meeting friends, concerts, and came back for a sleep late (around 2AM). Hence, I required my touring agency to find something cheap, good from city transport and venue point of view, and with breakfast...
Well....... Breakfast takes place in the lobby, from 8AM to 10AM. First of all, you are asked: "tea or coffee?" Strange already, but I replied with coffee. A cup of coffee, three pieces of bread, one slice of each cheese and ham, small piece of butter and jam, a small cake and one boiled egg. The next morning I got twice as much plus milk. Why? Or why couldn't it be that much on the first day? But prices in Athens are quite low, so this is a minor complain (although, to be honest, I felt much better and safer in terms of meal in two other hotels during my trip).
I arrived early in the morning, at 8AM, but I was told early check-in was not possible. I had to go to Acropolis anyway, so I spent 5 hour for that... :-) Check out was quick.
Paper tickets for WiFi were so funny and not practical. I was able to have only one WiFi session before I went out to Acropolis. Maybe I did something wrong, but in other hotels it was fine.
Remote control couldn't be found. I went down to ask for it, they asked me if I looked in drawers, to which I replied positively. A girl came to my number, checked the drawers to no result, and then looked.... under the bed. It was there! :-)
What else.... Oh, lavatory pan was unstable, and cold/hot water indicators were swapped. A minor complain it is now, when I decided to use cold water instead :-)
The area.... Well, either I have no worries about that, it didn't seem so frightening. They ask to leave keys on the table, indeed. And they did not allow my friend to come with me to my number, which is also understandable.
Since I did not have high requirements to my hotel I didn't have major complains. A funny place it is if you are an open-heart person who came to Athens to explore the city and not focus on your accommodation.
