Antwerp City Hostel

Great location! A good breakfast for free. To sum up, in terms of facilities it is a below average one! Any movements of the people from the upper floor creates huge noise due to the wooden ceiling! The rooms and the toilets are not cleaned properly, the bed was very noisy and uncomfortable, from my room I could hear people talking in the common area and even in other rooms loudly enough (I couldn’t sleep and stayed awake at night for 2hrs or so after 12:00 due to these noise), one needs to go one or more floors to reach the shower as the shower rooms are only on the third floor and so on.

Surprisingly excellent hostel. You could not wish for a better location, inside one of the most beautiful buildings in the historical center (but beware, 15 to 20 minute walk from the central train station). My bed was very comfortable, and I could hear no noise from the bars across the street. Friendly guests and staff, clean, and with a good free breakfast (cereal, toast, cold cuts, cheese, jams). There is no bar on site, but the breakfast room doubles as a communal space in the afternoon and evening. No 24-hour reception, but a system is in place for late check-in/out.

Prepare for the worst sleep that you probably will ever get: the mattresses squeak loudly after the slightest motion and the floors/roofs are so thin that you can hear every step of people inside the hostel. One bonus star because of the central location in town and the relatively cheap price, which includes an okayish breakfast.

It's not often one finds a hostel like this one. Amazing value for price that would be even excluding the free breakfast. Everything is clean and the location is more than ideal. But above all the staff makes this place deserve more than 5 stars. I'm afraid I didn't catch his name but from reception to breakfast he runs around even on his time off to make sure that every guest has the best stay possible.
