Amazing Staff, Lovely Hotel, Great Location
The staff at this hotel are the company’s biggest asset! They couldn’t do enough to make our stay comfortable. A big shout out has to go the lovely restaurant manager, she went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. The hotel is lovely & the location is fantastic, right on the canal. If I find myself in Amsterdam again, I will definitely stay here again

Blown away by this stylish hotel with the warmest people!
I flew into Amsterdam on New Years day for a 4 night stay. The hotel is situated bang slap in the old town, not too far from the red light district. Luckily the hotel is set back from the main street in a gorgeous Georgian courtyard and hence away from the hustle-bustle of the neighbourhood, yet walking distance in case you wish to explore! The interiors are incredibly stylish. The reception staff are competent and very friendly, while the concierge, were all superb! The hotel is just a 15-20 minutes pleasant walk from the museum district and 10-15 stroll to Jordaan and all the smart shopping districts. The Bridges restaurant is a highlight and a highly regarded restaurant in the city. As good as the food is, its the staff, who are the real heroes! I enjoyed the friendly chats with the staff at breakfast and was pleasantly surprised by the gift I received from one of the staff (Cornelia) on my last breakfast. I cannot recommend this hotel highly, it has set a new standard for service in my experience. Bravo

Grand Luxe in the Oldest Part of Town
My favorite among the five star hotels in the city. There is something very charming to being in the oldest part of the city. The hotel was the former town hall, although certain parts are as old as the fifteenth century the major part was built in the 1920's in the monumental Amsterdam School style. The floorpan is quite spread out with a flow of many intimate spaces, giving a wonderful feeling of intimacy. The service is personable and professional. The beautiful gardens are great in the summer for outside eating or for having drinks

Amazing hotel
My husband and I stayed here as a trip for my birthday. This has to be one of the best hotels we have stayed in. The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much.

The room we had was very spacious and faced the court yard so was very quite.

Unfortunately we didn’t get chance to eat in the hotel so cannot comment on the food.

We used the pool, sauna and steam room and these were great.

Overall this made my birthday one to remember. We cannot recommend this hotel a lot and we will be returning

Not up to expectations
My wife and I stayed for 1 night. We wanted to spend 2 relaxed days in Amsterdam and selected the Sofitel also because of the Spa.
Checking in was swift and the room was ready at noon. As the room had connecting doors I asked for another room without. We got then a new room which was however a lot smaller, really tiny. The bathroom only has a shower and no tub. The shower thermostat was defective and so the water temperature kept on changing between ice cold and boiling hot. The furniture in the room is partially damaged and very used. In the night there was a lot of noise from drunk people in the streets, difficult to get proper sleep. The Spa is a real joke: the relaxing area consists of 2 benches on which one can sit. That's it. Nothing else. And they are just un front of the pool. The sauna only fits 2 people and the same accounts for the steam, which was running but no flavour in the steam. At the spa reception there was nobody. The bar is nice but very small. It only has bar chairs - no other sitting area. The bar keeper was a young guy but fantastic. The dinner in the bistro was tastless and expensive. The breakfast was good. The staff was mostly very polite and professional.
All in all this Sofitel is far behind the expectations of a 5 star hotel and for what you get far to expensive with 550€ for 1 night in a tiny noisy room.

I highly recommend this hotel while you’re in Amsterdam.
The location was great, close to downtown and all the attractions.
The staff made everything feel safe during the pandemic and went the extra mile at all times.

6 Months ago , I stayed at the Grand , just before my wedding , to get ready.
I returned this time with my husband for a romantic night away.
We had in room dining from their restaurant 'Bridges' which was superb. Everything was arranged to the finest details. We had a sommelier help us , with choosing the wine which went best with our meal , and we had a wonderful laid table in the room.
The Room service staff were very accommodating , and explained each dish with care.
The room was set up beautifully , with complimentary cava , and additional in- room amenities.
All in all a wonderful night away in our own hometown, will definitely come back soon for another getaway

We had a wonderful stay.  The property is very well located, but still quiet.  The staff could not have been more friendly & accommodating.  The room was very clean & the bed one of the best I've slept in.  My husband & I were both celebrating birthdays a few days after our stay concluded, but at check the dates were noticed on our passports. We received a lovely birthday surprise to our room.  That's above & beyond. That's exceptional hospitality.  We would definitely stay here again & I will recommend you to all my Amsterdam travel clients.

Celebrated my 50th birthday while staying here. The attention to detail and personable service made me feel so very special even during an unprecedented time. Highly recommend butler service. First time experience. The spa removed 2 years of stress from my mind & body. Dining was unmatched by the finest restaurants in Amsterdam. I'm a raving fan of this hotel. Can't wait to return. It felt like a welcoming home.

Location is fairly situated in walking distance to many places. Our room was modern clean and so comfortable. We had been up for over 30 hours and for an insomniac, the bed was heaven. Slept for almost 12 hours. Best sleep I have had in many a night. Staff were all pleasant and helpful. All staff we interacted with all had a good sense of humor. Loved chatting with them. Wish I could have gotten the recipe for the herbal water. Excellent and refreshing. Hope to return for a longer stay.

Beautiful hotel, clean and very friendly service but I was severely turned off by the fact that they advertise free parking then tell its 80 euros per night to valet park and that’s the only option unless you want to walk and pay at a regular garage. Beware if you have a car and let them know if you want to move it in and out or use your keys at all as they will hold the keys.

Description

Location
Located between two gentle canals in the heart of the city, The Grand boasts a rich history; from a 15th-century convent to royal lodgings, to the headquarters of the Admiralty to the City Hall of Amsterdam. The hotel offers five-star luxury in a unique ambiance, furnished with French elegance and grandeur. The spacious, luxurious accommodations, the exceptional food and beverage proposition, the historic meeting/event venues and the indulgent SoSPA captivate and seduce everyone into visiting the hotel.
Our hotel is ideally located in the heart of the historical city centre. Many attractions are just a short walk from the hotel, including Dam Square, Madame Tussauds and Body Worlds. You will also find numerous bars and restaurants surrounding the hotel. Just a short tram ride away, you'll find the Anne Frank House or the iconic museums such as the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum. Here you will be amazed by beautiful works of arts. A boat trip on Amsterdam's canals is highly recommended.

Rooms
Large, on the whole, for Amsterdam and decorated with the same flair as the public spaces. Done up in natural tones, but with shades of plum, mint green and touches of orange. A television in the bathroom is standard, and the beds are enveloping cocoons. For once, 'courtyard view' is just that – a pleasant courtyard, rather than a cruddy back wall – though canal views have more charm. Bathrooms are reasonably large for Amsterdam (enormous in suites and higher-grade rooms), and come with Hermès products.

Food & drink
At Bridges restaurant, marble-topped tables, dark wooden floors, comfortably upholstered chairs and careful lighting create a genteel atmosphere that is never stiffly formal. Andrès Delpeut's consummate cuisine hits the perfect note: lightly smoked mackerel (almost sashimi) with a cheeky dot of lardo, in a pool of beurre blanc slicked with tarragon oil; cod with a surprising combo of kimchi, shitake, crab-cake, and black sesame soup (and, my word, does it work).

Sommelier Lotte Wolf's organic wines make a sublime accompaniment. Bridges BarBistro serves less elaborate dishes from the Delpeut kitchen and classics (Caesar salad, club sandwich), and in addition to the classy cocktail bar there's a cosy 'brown-café' style pub. Afternoon Tea in the garden courtyard or secluded library-lounge is a feast. Breakfast is superb, with a buffet that extends beyond the usual fare (including salads, such as mushroom, artichoke and lentil) and dishes-to-order ranging from congee to Dutch pancakes.
